Madrid Golf 2012
Last week we took a brief look at the tourist initiatives currently being employed by the golf department of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board in order to attract long-haul golfing visitors (primarily from Argentina) to our golfing destination.
It sho
uld not be overlooked that, whilst many golfers fly long or short-haul in search of winter golfing sun there exists another type of golfer that can pick up his car keys or, alternatively, take the high-speed train to Malaga: the ‘Madrileño’! To that end, Francisco Amoros and his team recently attended MADRIDGOLF 2011 where they shared a 188m2 stand with the medium, ‘El Periodigolf’ and other associate members of the tourist board such as Valle Romano.
The show appears to have been an unqualified success with 17,000 visitors over the three days, a significant rise on the 2010 edition. Aside from the general public some 4,000 industry professionals (TO’s, travel agents etc) attended on the Friday which was a great occasion to promote our wares. It is worth noting that golfers in Madrid comprise nearly 30% of all registered players in Spain. (96710 golfers belong to the Spanish Golf Federation) Given the relatively difficulty of securing a green fee and tee time in the capital is it surprising, given the offer, that Andalusia is consolidating itself as their second golfing home?
